Bulk Material

Highly reliable conveyor belt components

Bulk material refers to a mixture in granular or lumpy form that can be poured. Bulk material is referred to as bulk goods when it occurs in large quantities. A prerequisite for the handling or transport of bulk materials is their suitability based on their physical properties. These are goods delivered in large quantities to retailers and companies. Bulk materials include building materials such as sand and gravel, natural stone, cement, and raw materials such as coal, ores, and salts. Foodstuffs such as grain, sugar, and flour also fall into this category.

Due to their material properties, bulk goods are often stored in silos or bunkers. When it comes to transport, a distinction is made between continuous, i.e., uninterrupted, and discontinuous transport.

Continuous transport methods include simple devices such as hoses and pipes (known as pneumatic conveying), but also complex systems such as continuous conveyors (conveyor systems).

Conveyor systems have a major advantage in that they are very efficient, the bulk material can be transported directly without additional containers, and they also offer a high level of occupational safety.
